Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said Jakarta has become a hub for events of both international and national scale, with the growing number of events making a significant contribution to the capital's economic growth.
Their economic multiplier effect is tremendous
He made the remarks at the 2026 Third-Quarter Regional Budget Realization Press Conference, held under the theme "Sustaining Growth Momentum: The Regional Budget at Work in a Coordinated and Impactful Way", at Balairung, Jakarta City Hall, on Wednesday (10/21).
"Why are we encouraging events that make Jakarta a hub for major events? Because I believe their economic multiplier effect is tremendous," Pramono emphasized.
He cited several international and national events held in Jakarta, including The Weeknd's concert and the Pestapora music festival, noting that the city's ability to host such events had been supported in part by the development and improvement of facilities at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).
Pramono said the construction of a connecting bridge between JIS and Ancol, along with the activation of a commuter rail station near the stadium, had also improved accessibility for eventgoers.
Shopping festivals have also contributed significantly to economic activity. Pramono noted that transactions at Jakarta Fair reached Rp8.2 trillion, while the Jakarta Great Sale generated Rp26.8 trillion.
Sports events have also played a role in driving Jakarta's economy, including the 2026 Jakarta International Marathon. Pramono reaffirmed the Jakarta Provincial Government's support for organizing a wide range of events.
