Earthquake preparedness simulations were conducted simultaneously in 112 schools and 10 government offices in South Jakarta. One of the locations was the South Jakarta Mayor's Office, with the aim of increasing awareness and preparedness for disaster emergencies.

South Jakarta Mayor, Syafrin Liputo said the activity served as a training tool for government employees and staff, as well as school communities, to help them understand safety procedures during an earthquake.

In accordance with emergency procedures

"The simulation proceeded in an orderly manner and in accordance with emergency procedures. As soon as the first siren sounded, employees immediately took self-protection measures by taking cover under desks or huddling against a sturdy wall," he said, Wednesday (10/21).

Syafrin explained that when the second siren sounded, the employees immediately evacuated themselves from the building to the designated assembly point.

According to him, in addition to independent evacuation training, this activity also demonstrated the handling and rescue of injured victims by the emergency response team.

"Overall, the simulation went well. Employees were deemed to understand evacuation routes and safe assembly points within the building," he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Jakarta Provincial BPBD, Iwan Alex, explained that this activity also aims to test the preparedness of residents and building managers as well as evaluate the implementation of disaster mitigation.

"This simulation is also carried out as a test on buildings whose facilities are already adequate to withstand earthquakes," he explained.

Iwan added that to support the smooth running of activities, officers have formed a disaster response building management structure within the South Jakarta Mayor's Office.

"Each floor has a person in charge who is tasked with directing the evacuation process so that it takes place in an orderly and safe manner," he added.

Iwan continued around 50 BPBD personnel were deployed to support the simulation. Other participants included building managers, residents, and visitors.

Evaluation results showed the simulation went very well, with active participation from the building's residents.

"This activity is expected to strengthen rapid response and preparedness in the event of a real earthquake. This will minimize the risk of disaster and potential loss of life," he stated.
