To boost media literacy, the Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency (Diskominfotik) rolled out its Ngobrol Bareng Beritajakarta educational session at SMA Labschool Bintaro, South Jakarta. The How to Become a Journalist workshop engaged 240 students, giving them a firsthand look into journalism and broadcasting.

Beritajakarta Editor-in-Chief Dhini Gilang Prasasti noted that the event was the fourth leg of a six-school tour in Jakarta, designed to broaden students' horizons on journalism and inspire aspiring young reporters.

"This theme was selected to offer students valuable insights into journalism. Bringing Ngobrol Bareng Beritajakarta to schools is part of our drive to encourage students who wish to pursue a career in the media industry," she expressed, Wednesday (10/21).

Further, Dhini highlighted that the initiative gives students hands-on insight into the broadcasting world via the Jakarta government's official media channels.

The lineup of speakers included seasoned media professionals as well as Transjakarta voice-over talent and TJ Radio Producer Yasser Fikry.

"Having these industry experts on board allows students to gain valuable first-hand insights into the changing landscape of journalism and broadcasting," she explained.

According to her, the session turned into a lively dialogue as students peppered the speakers with questions and competed in prize quizzes to uncover how journalists and broadcasters work.

"Beyond picking up valuable media insights, the students showed amazing enthusiasm—especially during the Q&A rounds and giveaway quizzes," she explained.

He hoped that this would improve digital and media literacy among students while motivating the younger generation to learn about various professions in journalism.

During the event, the organizers also held a news anchor competition for the participants. The winner will have the opportunity to appear as a news anchor on the Beritajakarta Terkini program.

"Hopefully, it will be the best step for them to achieve their dreams in the future," he hoped.

SMA Labschool Bintaro Principal Dede Supriatna commended the initiative for selecting his school as part of the six-stop tour.

The workshop gave students hands-on insight into the journalistic workflow—from sourcing and editing to ethical news distribution.

"With information traveling at lightning speed, students need to practice a filter-then-share mindset. Verify first, post later—especially to combat hoaxes," he emphasized.

Addressing the 240 students, Dede highlighted the importance of critical thinking and objective analysis. A journalist's job, he noted, is to report grounded facts based on real events, rather than spreading unverified content.

"Beyond academic excellence, this training equips students with vital life skills to navigate the relentless flood of digital information," he continued.

Among the participants, 11th-Grade Student and News Anchor Contest Winner Haga Saniva shared his delight at taking part in the live workshop.

Despite initial hesitation, Haga's dream of becoming a journalist—paired with strong support from his classmates—pushed him to step up and excel in the competition.

"I encourage everyone to consume news more wisely. We, as students, must make sure we don't get misled by hoaxes," he asserted.
