Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Chair Suhud Alynudin welcomed the opening of An-Nur Floating Mosque at Ancol Beach, North Jakarta, on Friday (10/16).

This is one of the programs that Jakarta residents have consistently asked about

He was pleased that the long-awaited mosque had finally been completed and could now be used for worship.

According to Suhud, residents had repeatedly asked about the mosque's progress during his recess visits and community meetings.

"This is one of the programs that Jakarta residents have consistently asked about," Suhud added.

He noted that residents had repeatedly asked when An-Nur Floating Mosque would be completed. Its opening is therefore expected not only to meet residents' need for a place of worship but also to benefit tourism and spiritual life.

Suhud hopes the mosque will attract more visitors to Ancol while serving the spiritual needs of the community.

"I hope the mosque will boost tourism in Ancol while also making a meaningful contribution to spiritual life across Jakarta," he said.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung previously inaugurated An-Nur Floating Mosque at Ancol Beach in North Jakarta. The project was first proposed in 2019, during the administration of former governor Anies Baswedan. However, construction was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic before being completed in July 2026.

The mosque can accommodate up to 900 worshippers and features a design inspired by a vessel of faith. Its pentagonal shape represents the five pillars of Islam.

An-Nur Floating Mosque is expected to serve not only as a place of worship but also as a new landmark along Jakarta's coastline and a symbol of harmony among the city's diverse communities.
