The Jakarta Health Agency is stepping up efforts to prevent and control dengue, particularly as the city approaches the transition to the rainy season.

This year's dengue cases are about 16.5 percent lower than last year's

According to surveillance data from the Jakarta Health Agency, dengue cases peaked in March 2026 and have continued to decline since April.

Jakarta Health Agency Head Ani Ruspitawati said 58 dengue cases were recorded in October 2026, down from September.

Cumulatively, the number of cases from January to October 2026 was also lower than during the same period last year.

"This year's dengue cases are about 16.5 percent lower than last year's and 38.4 percent lower than in 2024," she said on Friday (10/16).

Ani said the Jakarta Health Agency had taken several measures to reduce dengue cases, including strengthening surveillance and early warning systems, conducting epidemiological investigations into reported cases, and implementing vector control measures based on the investigation findings.

The agency is also stepping up the 3M Plus Mosquito Nest Eradication Movement (PSN) and strengthening the role of mosquito larva monitoring cadres (Jumantik). These efforts are accompanied by measures to ensure the early detection and prompt treatment of patients at health centers and hospitals.

"Our focus is not only on reducing the number of cases, but also on preventing dengue-related deaths through early detection and treatment," she stressed.

Ani explained that the 3M Plus Movement remains an important and effective measure for preventing dengue ahead of the transition to the rainy season because it directly targets mosquito breeding sites.

However, the movement's effectiveness depends heavily on consistent implementation and broad participation. She noted that mosquito nest eradication should not be carried out only when cases emerge or during visits by Jumantik cadres. Instead, it must become a routine activity for every household and all those responsible for managing their surroundings.

The Jakarta Health Agency is also urging people across the city to actively participate in the 3M Plus Movement, as mosquito breeding sites can be found not only in residential areas but also in offices, schools, public spaces, food establishments, healthcare facilities, and sports venues.

"Active participation from all segments of society is essential to the success of the 3M Plus Movement," she emphasized.

The Jakarta Health Agency has been coordinating with local government officials and relevant agencies at various levels to strengthen efforts to prevent dengue.

On October 1, 2026, the Jakarta Provincial Government held a coordination meeting attended by mayors and regents, heads of regional agencies, and sub-district and urban village heads from across the city. The meeting aimed to strengthen local preparedness for dengue ahead of the rainy season.

The agency has also issued Circular Letter No. 35/2026 to strengthen cross-sector collaboration and data integration in dengue prevention through the Mosquito Nest Eradication Movement, Ani said.

"The circular is part of our efforts to strengthen collaboration across sectors and integrate data to prevent dengue," she added.

Ani explained that the Jakarta Health Agency had also held a public awareness campaign on September 27, 2026, at Bundaran HI during Car Free Day, in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and other partners.

She noted that the Jakarta Health Agency, together with community health center personnel, sub-district heads, and urban village heads, continues to carry out the Mosquito Nest Eradication Drive (Gerebek PSN) every Friday.

"Our goal is not only to reduce cases but also to prevent every dengue-related death in Jakarta, as far as possible," she said.
