The Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency planted shallots on the land of the Women Farmers Group (KWT) Women Fishermen, Pari Island Urban Village, Seribu Selatan Islands, Wednesday (10/14).
This activity is carried out to encourage the development of local food crops while strengthening community food security.
Develop local food crops
Head of the Seribu Islands KPKP's Food Security Section, Helena Simarmata, said that planting was carried out on a 30 square meter plot of land using five kilograms of shallot seeds planted in 304 planting holes.
"Today we are planting together and handing over red onion seeds and humic acid fertilizer," she said, Wednesday (10/14).
According to Helena, the monitoring and guidance aims to improve land utilization and encourage farmer groups to develop local food potential sustainably.
"Hopefully they will be more active in utilizing land to develop local food crops and support community food independence," he added.
Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Munaya (44), said this activity provides an opportunity for the community to learn how to utilize land and at the same time develop food crops that are useful for daily needs.
"This activity is beneficial because the community can learn how to utilize the land to grow food. Hopefully, the seeds and fertilizer provided will be put to good use, so that the results benefit the community," he said.
