Cengkareng Sub-district Head Suhardin said upgrading the Apuran Riverbank in Kapuk, RT 08/12 is part of ongoing flood mitigation efforts.
Then, a new pump house will be built on the site to channel water from the Apuran River into the Cengkareng Drain.
"Our data shows 31 structures are affected, and we've offered them relocation," he explained.
His party initially offered residents units at public housing complexes in East Jakarta like Rawa Bebek and Bantar Gebang, but residents rejected them due to the distance.
Instead, the West Jakarta administration arranged for them to relocate to the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi apartments in Cengkareng Timur.
Twenty-five property owners toured the site and learned about the relocation plan during a September 30 visit with West Jakarta Mayor Iin Muthmainah.
Residents were asked to tear down their own homes within two weeks, with city workers providing labor and moving help.
"Today, our personnel dismantled four buildings and helped residents move straight into the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi apartments," Suhardin added.
Cengkareng Satpol PP Head Sukarya said 102 joint personnel from Satpol PP, Water Resources, Bina Marga, PPSU, and local government staff were deployed to manage the relocation.
"The rest will move together next Wednesday. We're ready to help residents move and tear down their buildings," he stressed.
Andri Sudiarto, a resident in RT 08/12, said he does not mind relocating to back the city's flood prevention efforts.
"I've lived here for 25 years, but since it's a government program, we support it," he admitted.
