Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the city is prioritizing fire prevention as risks climb due to an extended El Niño cycle.

"Prevention is our top priority. We're positioning the Regional Disaster Management Agency to be transparent, open, and communicative with the community," Pramono expressed Friday (10/9) in North Jakarta.

Jakarta is also optimizing Weather Modification Operations (OMC), though they often fail to trigger rain. Even so, he has directed the Regional Disaster Mitgation Agency (BPBD) to keep running OMC whenever potential rain clouds are spotted.

He added that he is closely monitoring recent fire incidents in Jakarta, stressing that prevention is key to keeping flames from spreading quickly.

Pram also asked residents to help prevent fires by properly disposing of cigarette butts and checking electrical safety.

"Don't toss cigarette butts carelessly, make sure electrical setups won't short circuit, and so on. Preventive measures are something we must all maintain together," he asserted.
