Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung toured the construction site of a new link road bridging Kelapa Gading and Pulogadung in North Jakarta on Friday (10/9).

Initially conceptualized in 2006, the 1.8-kilometer infrastructure venture has been developed in stages starting from 2009 and continues through today.

Hopefully Jakarta will improve further and traffic congestion will decrease significantly

Pramono has set a target to wrap up the link road project—connecting Gading Pluit Hospital to the Pulogadung Terminal—by 2027.

"This morning, I made it a point to inspect the progress on this road, whose planning dates all the way back to 2006," he expressed.

According to Pramono, finalizing pending infrastructure initiatives stands as a core priority for the Jakarta government, focusing on projects that deliver tangible benefits to residents and city growth.

Building the link road between Kelapa Gading and Pulogadung is intended to streamline mobility and enhance access to public transit nodes. Additionally, the arterial roadway is essential for cutting down travel distance and commuting times for drivers.

"We call this the Kelapa Gading Arterial, and it will help break up the heavy traffic bottleneck, especially along Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan," he explained.

Alongside finishing the link road, Jakarta is upgrading local public facilities and repairing damaged streets.

Pram expects these improvements to ease traffic flow across key congestion points in the city.

"With these upgrades, hopefully Jakarta will improve further and traffic congestion will decrease significantly," he added.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head Heru Suwondo noted that the ongoing arterial road project is already partially open to traffic.

"We've actually started operating it now. Vehicles coming from the west and heading north can already get through, despite the road not being fully finished yet," he explained.
