The 17th Palang Pintu Festival and 2026 Archipelago Cultural Arts Showcase officially took over Jalan Kemang Raya in Bangka, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, running from October 3 to 4, 2026.

The weekend street festival brought together hundreds of artists and cultural performers while empowering 250 local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Through this event, I hope our younger generation

South Jakarta City Secretary Mukhlisin emphasized that Palang Pintu is far more than a dazzling performance of pencak silat martial arts and rhyming pantun poetry—it is the living embodiment of core Betawi values, reflecting bravery, openness, mutual respect, kinship, and an unwavering spirit of protecting one another.

"Now in its 17th year, this festival proves that Betawi culture is not merely a relic of the past, but a living, breathing tradition that continues to thrive and evolve alongside the people of Jakarta," he expressed, Saturday (10/3).

He noted that this year’s edition is particularly special as it also showcases a diverse tapestry of traditional arts from across the Indonesian archipelago.

The presence of arts and performances from various ethnic backgrounds across Jakarta demonstrates that diversity is not a dividing line, but a rich cultural asset that cements unity.

"Through this event, I hope our younger generation—especially Gen Z—won't just stand by as passive spectators, but will actively discover, love, and carry forward our nation's cultural heritage," he urged.

Mukhlisin added that beyond cultural preservation, the Palang Pintu Festival delivers a direct economic boost to surrounding communities through the active participation of local MSMEs.

"Guided by the spirit of culture thrives, communities mobilize, local economies grow stronger. I hope this festival remains an official fixture on the Jakarta government’s annual calendar, driving South Jakarta toward even greater progress," he expressed.

Meanwhile, 17th Palang Pintu Festival Head Organizer Edy Mulyadi explained that this year’s event embraces the spirit of generational renewal. The committee overhauled its operational framework to make the festival more professional, transparent, and seamless for stakeholders—from handling permits and managing tenants to event concept design and on-the-ground execution.

The overhaul zeroes in on three things: preserving the authenticity of Palang Pintu, upgrading team talent, and streamlining leadership—all to keep the festival polished, professional, and future-proof.

"We're shaking up our playbook and passing the baton to the next generation. By modernizing our workflow, we’ve taken the friction out of licensing, vendor curation, and event execution, while letting the heritage of Palang Pintu shine brighter than ever," he added.

Passing the torch to Gen Z. This year’s festival proves Betawi culture isn't just surviving—it’s thriving in the hands of young creators, with elders cheering them on from the sidelines.

It is not just a celebration—it’s a community engine. 250 local small businesses brought high flavor and creativity to the festival grounds.

"We don't measure a festival's success by foot traffic alone. It’s about sparking creativity, empowering small businesses, and passing the cultural baton to the next generation," he closed.
