The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Water Resources (SDA) Agency, dredged a 2.3-kilometer stretch of the Krukut River in Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Monday (9/28). This dredging was the first in nearly 60 years.

Jakarta City Council's Commission D Member, Ida Mahmudah said the success of river management requires public support. According to him, the development and improvements undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government will not run optimally without public involvement.

Ida emphasized that the management of the Krukut River is not only the responsibility of the Jakarta Provincial Government, but also the responsibility of residents living around the riverbanks.

"This is for all of us, especially the residents who live around the riverbanks," she said.

Ida also requested that the relocation process for residents affected by the project be carried out through good communication. For residents with businesses, she proposed that the Water Resources Agency cooperate with the PPKUKM Agency to utilize available Assisted Locations (Lokbin) or Temporary Locations (Loksem).

"Lokbin or Loksem which are empty can be temporarily used by residents affected by the project," she stated.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is targeting physical work on environmental improvement of the Krukut River Basin to begin in early 2027 and be completed in mid to late 2028.

Current work is using three mini spider excavators to remove sedimentation while supporting area development through the construction of retaining walls, reforestation, and the provision of integrated bathing, washing, and toilet (MCK) facilities.
