Eight personnel have been deployed to revitalize a 140-meter-long drainage channel on Jalan Blok Dukuh or Rawa Kuda, RT 13/10, Cibubur Urban Village, Ciracas Sub-district, East Jakarta.

"This revitalization project is aimed at boosting drainage capacity and preventing the recurring floods we typically see during the rainy season," expressed Yulia Indah, Head of Ciracas Sub-district Water Resources Executing Unit (SDA), Friday (9/25).

Yulia elaborated that the old drainage system fell far short of capacity, measuring a mere 15 to 20 centimeters in both width and depth. Because of this, the channel struggled to handle heavy water flow during downpours.

She noted that workers are installing 40x40 centimeter precast U-ditch concrete pieces to boost capacity and reinforce the structural integrity of the channel.

"Work on this drainage project kicked off in early September 2026, and we are aiming to wrap it up within two months. Right now, progress is already sitting at around 40 percent," she detailed.

This revitalization received appreciation from one of the locals, Rizka Aulia Aminy (39).

Rizka shared that seasonal floods in the area can reach depths of 30 to 40 centimeters. Besides disrupting daily life for locals, but it also creates hurdles for children trying to attend religious lessons at the neighborhood prayer hall.

"Sometimes the kids heading out for their Quranic studies get disrupted and end up skipping class just because of the standing water," she noted.

She hoped the drainage upgrade would wrap up soon so that the neighborhood's flooding woes can finally be put to rest.

"Hope once this work is done, we won't experience any more floods when the rainy season arrives. The channel is now built permanently and up to standard," she concluded.
