The Central Jakarta Administration is committed to ensuring that land acquisition for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) East-West Corridor, Thamrin-Kwitang segment, is conducted openly, fairly, and humanely.

Central Jakarta City Secretary Denny Ramdany made the statement while chairing a consultation meeting on the land acquisition plan for the Thamrin-Kwitang MRT project at the Mayor's Office's Pola Room on Thursday (9/24).

He explained that transportation infrastructure development involves technical considerations while also having a direct impact on residents' social and economic lives and their neighborhoods.

"Intensive and transparent communication is key to preventing misunderstandings and ensuring that residents' rights are fulfilled in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he asserted.

Based on preliminary data collected so far, Denny said the construction of the Jakarta MRT East-West Corridor, Thamrin-Kwitang segment, will affect 64 parties and 17 residents.

"The affected land is spread across Gambir, Kebon Sirih, Senen, and Kwitang Urban Villages. We are paying special attention to ensuring that every issue is identified and resolved through the appropriate mechanisms," he explained.

Denny added that Thursday's public consultation was part of a series of activities that began with an outreach session on September 16, followed by preliminary data collection at the site on September 17 and 18, 2026.

"Through this forum, residents receive detailed information about the purpose and objectives of the project, the compensation assessment process, property assessments, forms of compensation, as well as the rights and obligations of each party," he explained.

He stressed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to providing legal certainty and protecting residents' rights, including through the provision of fair compensation.

A deliberative and transparent approach to information-sharing has been adopted to ensure that residents' activities can continue, public services are maintained, and access for residents is not disrupted for an extended period during construction.

"Sub-district and urban village administrations will continue to serve as a link between the government and residents, listening to their feedback and aspirations. We also call on RT/RW administrators, community leaders, and religious leaders to help maintain a conducive environment," he noted.

Denny expressed hope that the East-West MRT project would not only improve connectivity and mobility for Jakarta residents, but also support area development, boost local economic activity, and improve residents' overall quality of life.

"Let's maintain communication, build trust, and resolve every issue through deliberation. Hopefully, the entire development process will run smoothly, orderly, and transparently," Denny asserted.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Government's Bureau of Government Affairs at the Regional Secretariat, Fajar Eko Satriyo, explained that the East-West MRT project has been designated a National Strategic Project (PSN).

He said the development is an important part of the transportation system in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

"We are committed to conducting the land acquisition process in an open, fair, and transparent manner to provide legal certainty and protect residents' rights, including by providing fair compensation," he emphasized.
