Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno has responded to a proposal from the Jakarta DPRD to trial Car Free Day (CFD) twice a week for three months, calling it an interesting idea.

However, Rano said the proposal should take various aspects into consideration so it would not disrupt people's daily activities.

"It is actually an interesting proposal because it would certainly reduce emissions. But there are considerations. Sunday would certainly be easy, but on Saturday, some people may still need to go to work," Rano explained on Wednesday (9/23).

Therefore, Rano said the idea needed to be carefully considered and comprehensively reviewed to ensure it would not disrupt people's activities.

Rano also recalled that he had previously proposed a Car Free Night, saying the initiative was intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, similar to the power-saving campaign during Earth Hour, when buildings switch off their lights.

"Actually, it's not difficult. It wouldn't take long, just like Car-Free Day, which runs from 5:30 to 9:00 AM," he added.
