South Jakarta’s Q3 2026 neighborhood improvement project along Jalan Kapten Tendean is embracing a eco-friendly, walkable design.

According to Teuku Aji Mahbrurry, Head of Pela Mampang Sub-district, the project aims to turn a formerly blighted strip into a lush, clean, and attractive urban area.

This roadside area used to be abused

“This roadside area used to be abused—people dumped garbage here, parked illegally, and set up street food carts without permission,” he expressed, Thursday (9/17).

He explained that the revitalization covers a 20-square-meter plot, designed around a cleaner, greener, and more orderly concept. The effort includes landscaping with ornamental plants, installing sorted waste bins, and setting up neighborhood signage.

“Because it sits right along a major road, the makeover boosts urban appeal and provides a fresh visual experience for drivers and pedestrians alike,” he added.

He highlighted that the makeover was made possible through inter-agency collaboration, partnering with the South Jakarta Bina Marga and Parks and City Forest sub-agencies.

The joint effort focused on sidewalk restoration and urban greening. Executed by five PPSU personnel, the project had been underway since July 2026.

“Work is now fully finished. Hope residents will maintain the area's cleanliness, thus the broader public can enjoy a well-kept public space,” he added.

The project received appreciation from one of the locals, Husein.

“That spot used to be cluttered with broken concrete pots, turning it into an illegal dump and parking area. The makeover changed all that—it looks far cleaner and lush now as you drive or walk past,” he admitted.
