Students at SMAN 69 Pramuka Island, Seribu Utara Islands District, received direct learning about urban agriculture through vegetable cultivation using hydroponic methods in the school environment.

Head Section of Food Security for Seribu Island KPKP Sub-agency, Helena Simarmata said apart from learning to plant and care for plants, students also take part in harvesting activities.

"These students can learn directly how to plant and care for food crops even with limited land," she said, Monday (9/14)

Helena explained that the cultivation method uses a single hydroponic rack with the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) system, which has 72 planting holes. The rack is placed in an area of ​approximately 24 square meters.

"Today's harvest included five kilograms of bok choy and two kilograms of kale. Meanwhile, on other shelves, several plants are still growing and being prepared for the next harvest," she explained.

Helena added that hydroponics is the right method to develop in the Seribu Islands because it can be applied to limited land.

Meanwhile, one of the school teachers, Soleh appreciated the assistance provided by the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency because it provided direct experience to school residents in utilizing land productively.

"Students can observe and learn the process from cultivation to harvest. Besides gaining knowledge, the results can also be used for school needs," he stated.
