The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency has installed a pelican crossing near the pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Dewi Sartika in Cawang, East Jakarta.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the facility was introduced to make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross the road, particularly because the bridge staircase currently ends in the middle of the roadway.

We took the initiative to install protective fencing.

“Through the Bina Marga Agency, we took the initiative to install protective fencing. And, as you can see on site, we have also provided a pelican crossing that will be managed by the Jakarta government,” Pram expressed, Wednesday (9/9).

He went on to say that the unusual location of the bridge staircase in the middle of the road had become a source of complaints among residents. The pedestrian bridge in front of Signature Park Grande Apartment was supposed to be completed by KSO Fortuna Indonesia, which is responsible for the project.

“Once the road was widened and the necessary facilities were provided, the bridge should have been handed over as the developer’s responsibility. But, unfortunately, it remains unfinished to this day,” he explained.

Despite the issue, he had instructed KSO Fortuna Indonesia to promptly complete the pedestrian bridge on Jalan Dewi Sartika to prevent it from endangering public safety.

“I have asked them (KSO Fortuna Indonesia) to immediately carry out the necessary improvements and complete the bridge, which is its responsibility,” he noted.

Notably, the pedestrian bridge at the intersection of Jalan Dewi Sartika and Jalan Otto Iskandardinata (Otista) in Cawang, East Jakarta, has an unusual design, with its staircase ending in the middle of the roadway.

Consequently, pedestrians using the bridge are still required to cross the road after descending the stairs, creating a significant safety risk.
