The Central Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) on Monday (9/7) distributed 4,000 masks as an effort to anticipate exposure to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau which could harm the health of residents.
Our concern for residents
Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP Agency, Purnama Hasudungan Panggabean said the distribution of 4,000 masks was carried out at 44 crowded locations, including the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout area, markets, train stations, residential areas, and several protocol roads.
"This is a form of our concern for residents who are active outdoors. We encourage residents to wear masks to protect their health," he said.
He also appealed to residents not to be fooled by misleading information regarding the eruption activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
"If you get information from the public, try checking it first via the official government website which is more accurate," he appealed.
One of Cempaka Putih residents, Suhendar (42), assessed that this activity helps residents prevent the impact of the spread of volcanic ash which can interfere with breathing.
"I'm experiencing some difficulty breathing and vision due to the dust. Hopefully, this can be addressed soon," he hoped.
