Jakarta is setting its sights on the vibrant Indian market. To bolster its global presence, the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Department recently concluded its Jakarta Sales Mission in New Delhi (8/31) and Mumbai (9/2), 2026.

This mission is a strategic part of Jakarta’s participation in the prestigious ITB India 2026 international trade show. In collaboration with the Indonesia Inbound Tour Operators Association (IINTOA), the event facilitated high-level networking between 11 prominent sellers from Jakarta’s tourism industry and over 140 potential buyers, including Indian travel agents, tour operators, and Destination Management Companies (DMCs).

These authentic experiences are what ultimately forge Jakarta’s reputation as a premier global city

The Jakarta delegation featured key stakeholders such as Immigration Directorate General, Ina Leisure, Lisa Tour & Travel, Nuansa Mandiri, Sari Pacific Jakarta (Autograph Collection), Satguru, Jakarta Aquarium, DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, PT Ganesha Sanskritik Indonesia, and Asian Classic Travel.

Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Head, Andhika Permata stated that the Jakarta Sales Mission is a key strategy to expand tourism business networks, enhance the city's international visibility, and drive both transactions and tourist arrivals.

Permata emphasized India’s growing importance, pointing to the 548,745 Indian arrivals recorded through September 2025. This upward trend reflects a substantial year-on-year growth.

“Our focus on the Indian market aligns with Jakarta’s vision to evolve into a world-class destination that is competitive, inclusive, and globally integrated,” he added, during a statement, Friday (9/4).

Permata explained that the development of tourism and the creative economy transcends mere arrival statistics. Instead, it is measured by how effectively Jakarta builds global relationships, generates economic value, showcases its unique identity, and delivers memorable experiences to the international community.

As the city approaches its 500th anniversary and strives to enter the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030, Jakarta must become increasingly integrated with the world. He assessed, tourism is one of the most tangible ways to bridge this connectivity.

“When tourists visit Jakarta, they don’t just see a city; they immerse themselves in our culture, savor our culinary heritage, engage with our people, and witness our creative spirit. These authentic experiences are what ultimately forge Jakarta’s reputation as a premier global city,” he explained.

By focusing on New Delhi and Mumbai, the Jakarta Sales Mission aimed to tap into India’s primary travel networks. The event provided a platform for Jakarta’s tourism stakeholders to pitch their products directly to buyers, study market characteristics, and establish professional networks.

"The mission is also about identifying opportunities to co-create travel packages that put Jakarta on the map for Indian tourists," he added.

The Jakarta Sales Mission is focused on converting promotional efforts into tangible business leads, according to Lucky Wulandari, Head of Marketing and Attractions.

She highlighted that Jakarta possesses the strong capital needed to bolster its global competitiveness, citing the city's vibrant culture, culinary scene, and sophisticated MICE infrastructure.

“This mission is a testament to the Jakarta government’s dedication to expanding our global footprint. We're opening doors for tourism investment and driving growth that is both inclusive and sustainable for the future,” Wulandari explained.
