Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially inaugurated the 2026 Jakarta Student Sports Week (POPPROV) at the Soemantri Brodjonegoro Student Hall, South Jakarta, Monday (8/31).

On that occasion, Pramono underscored the critical importance of upholding fair, transparent, and disciplined competition.

I hope they (athletes) will one day become the pride of Jakarta

"This tournament, and this sports week as a whole, must be conducted with fairness, transparency, and integrity. We must ensure that the competition remains healthy and genuine," he expressed.

This event serves as a developmental platform for Jakarta’s student-athletes, while also acting as the preliminary selection for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON) in East and West Nusa Tenggara.

Thereby, he urged the Head of Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency and KONI Jakarta to meticulously prepare the athletes to secure the overall championship title at 2028 PON.

He also expressed high hopes that these young talents will represent Indonesia on the international stage in the future.

"I hope they (athletes) will one day become the pride of Jakarta—competing in PON, and eventually in the SEA Games, Asian Games, and even world championships. May these aspirations be realized," he stressed.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head, Andri Yansyah explained that POPPROV 2026 is a medium for assessing regional athlete development. It also offers athletes valuable match experience and a chance to build rapport among the sports community.

The games consist of 20 competition numbers across five sports: basketball, volleyball, badminton, football, and sepak takraw.

This event has drawn 1,247 participants, including 1,049 young athletes and 198 coaches from across Jakarta’s five administrative cities and Seribu Islands. PT Jaya Ancol is also providing its full backing for this prestigious competition.

"To reward excellence, the team that emerges as the overall champion will be treated to a special prize—free passes to Ancol and Dufan," he stated.
