A 100-square-meter plot in Kelapa Gading Barat is getting a major makeover. The third quarter featured area project at Jalan Mitra Gading Villa is now 70% complete, turning a once-overlooked space into a green sanctuary.

According to Ahmad Surya Kusuma, Head of Kelapa Gading Barat Urban Village, the area was chosen because of its existing potential as an urban farming spot for the local PKK group.

The spot was once derelict and abandoned

"The spot was once derelict and abandoned. So, we transform it into a space that is not only beautiful to look at but also brings real value and productivity to the locals," he expressed, Wednesday (8/26).

He explained that the area will be adorned with various ornamental plants, seating areas for residents to relax, and a mini jogging track running through the center. Additionally, a distinctive landmark or signage made of cement, featuring hand-carved details, will be installed.

"We're targeting for the project to be fully completed by mid-September," he added.

He added that work is conducted daily by two to three teams of PPSU personnel. The revitalization is a collaborative effort, receiving technical support from the North Jakarta Parks and City Forests Sub-agency and the Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency.

"We are also receiving incredible support from locals, who participate through communal work every weekend," he added.

Aside that, residents have even proposed extending the initiative to the opposite side of the RW 17 entrance to further enhance the area’s lush and vibrant atmosphere.

"Once completed, I hope they (residents) will work together to keep the area clean and well-maintained, ensuring its benefits can be enjoyed for years to come," he concluded.

This work received appreciation from one of the locals, Siska (60).

She hopes that once the revitalization is complete, the entire community will join hands to maintain the cleanliness and care for the new facilities.

"It is a wonderful development, especially for us seniors who need to stay active. We now have a safe, nearby space with fresh air for exercise. This area also serves as a social hub for residents, offering a much-needed break from being indoors," she stated.
