West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah and her team visited a waste management site in RW 08, South Kembangan Urban Village, and TPS 3R in RW 01, South Meruya Urban Village, Kembangan Sub-district, on Friday (8/21).

Can be processed into higher-quality compost with greater value and market potential

Iin said the visit was part of efforts to finalize plans to develop sustainable waste processing products in Kembangan Sub-district.

"We had planned this visit as part of our efforts to map out opportunities and coordinate with all stakeholders," she said Friday (8/21).

Iin explained that residents of RW 08, South Kembangan Urban Village, have been sorting organic and inorganic waste for the past two years, with the waste management system operating effectively over the past six months.

The Sirsak community, which consists of young people, also works with residents to sort inorganic waste once a month. The sorted waste is then processed with private-sector partners to create economic value, reflecting residents' strong commitment to responsible waste management.

Iin also praised waste management at the TPS 3R in RW 01, South Meruya Urban Village. Managed by the West Jakarta Environment Sub-agency, the facility processes inorganic waste into refuse-derived fuel (RDF) and briquette materials for cement production, giving the waste economic value.

Organic waste at the facility is processed into composting material, although the results are not yet optimal because it is still mixed with inorganic waste.

According to Iin, the administration is currently developing plans to improve organic waste management in collaboration with private-sector partners that have the necessary technology and expertise.

"We hope waste from residential areas in Kembangan can be processed into higher-quality compost with greater value and market potential. We will discuss the technology and partnership soon so they can be implemented as quickly as possible," she noted.
