PT MRT Jakarta is expanding its flagship station with a massive 4,439-square-meter extended concourse. This new multifunctional area will directly link the MRT station to the iconic Bundaran HI Transjakarta Bus Stop.

The best part? It is a non-tapping area—perfect for those who want to experience the vibrant transit hub without having to ride the train. Currently 21.46% complete, the project is on track after starting construction earlier in 2026.

We are pushing to hit the 24% mark by the end of August

With a dedicated investment by Rp 200 billion, the expansion includes two sleek new entrances and elevators to boost accessibility. Of this amount, Rp 150 billion is dedicated to construction, with the remainder allocated for planning and supervisory consultants. Once finished, this space is predicted to draw an extra 6,000 people per day, turning the heart of Thamrin into an even more connected and lively urban destination.

PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta President Director Ferdiansyah Roestam, explained that the projected increase of 6,000 passengers is expected once both the extended concourse and the MRT Phase 2 project are completed.

"We anticipate a ridership boost of approximately 6,000 at Bundaran HI Station as we welcome the route extension toward Monas Station, which is also being prepared to reach Jakarta Kota Station," he expressed, during a site visit to the extended concourse project, Friday (8/21.

"As of July, construction progress has reached 21.46%, and we are pushing to hit the 24% mark by the end of August," he added.

Current construction efforts are focused on wall installation and reinforcement, waterproofing, and Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. These works are being carried out simultaneously with sheet pile installation to create openings for new entrances and elevators along the east and west pedestrian paths of Jalan MH Thamrin.

Commuters can look forward to two new entry points—equipped with stairs and escalators—located conveniently in front of Plaza Indonesia and Wisma Nusantara. To ensure inclusivity, disability-friendly elevators are being added to the western pedestrian path and inside the Transjakarta bus stop. These upgrades will not only streamline the transit experience for MRT and bus users but also revitalize the surrounding commercial ecosystem.

Speaking at Wisma Nusantara this Friday (8/21), PT MRT Jakarta’s Commercial Head, Ricky Agung Kresna Putra, shared an exciting vision for the Bundaran HI extended concourse. The project will feature 24 versatile units designed for F&B, retail, and brand activations, aimed at transforming the transit hub into a bustling center of economic and social life.

"We'll open these areas with a priority on art, exhibitions, and performing arts, though we certainly remain open to future collaborations with various communities," he explained.

The future of Jakarta’s transit is interconnected. The upcoming extended concourse is designed to link directly to the city’s most prestigious addresses, such as Plaza Indonesia, Grand Indonesia, and Pullman, Mandarin Oriental, and Kempinski hotels. This subterranean network will turn Bundaran HI into a vital pulse point for the city.

Targeted to finish in May 2027 and open to the public that June, the project promises to boost travel quality and urban vibrancy. Its debut will be perfectly timed with Jakarta’s quincentenary (500th anniversary), offering a "sweet gift" to the people of Jakarta as the city celebrates half a millennium of history.
