The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) fully supports Governor Pramono Anung’s directives regarding measures to address the dry weather conditions affecting Jakarta’s air quality. One of the primary measures prepared is the implementation of Weather Modification Operations (OMC).

Jakarta BPBD Head, Marulitua Sijabat, stated that his agency, in collaboration with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), is continuously monitoring weather conditions, specifically cloud developments that show potential for modification.

BPBD stands ready to coordinate with BMKG and related parties to promptly carry out weather modification measures

According to Sijabat, the execution of OMC is highly dependent on atmospheric conditions and the availability of clouds that meet specific technical requirements.

"Hence, when suitable cloud potential is identified, BPBD stands ready to coordinate with BMKG and related parties to promptly carry out weather modification measures in accordance with prevailing conditions and regulations," he expressed, Tuesday (8/18).

Besides the OMC, BPBD is also bolstering its preparedness to face the dry season, which is expected to persist until the end of September.

He explained that measures are being taken to anticipate various potential risks that may arise during prolonged dry spells. These risks include wildfires, water shortages, and other impacts resulting from dry conditions.

“BPBD is ready to follow through on the Governor's directives, both in strengthening our preparedness for the dry season and in maintaining Jakarta's air quality,” he emphasized.
