The South Jakarta Social Sub-agency distributed 690 assistive devices to residents in need between January and early August 2026. This assistance was provided to enhance the accessibility, mobility, and independence of persons with disabilities, particularly those from low-income families.

Yan Vetansyah, Head of the Social Protection, Security, and Rehabilitation Section of the Sub-agency, stated that the aid provision represents a fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities to access social services tailored to their individual needs.

Fulfill their rights

"We provide this to fulfill their rights, particularly for persons with disabilities from low-income or highly vulnerable households," he stated, Tuesday (8/11).

The distribution of assistive devices is carried out based on data collection and assessments of prospective beneficiaries, ensuring that the type of assistance provided is tailored to each resident's specific condition and needs.

Of the total 690 assistive devices distributed, wheelchairs for adults accounted for the largest share, totaling 406 units. This figure represents more than half of all the physical assistive devices distributed.

"Hearing aids ranked second with 195 units. Other forms of assistance included 49 tripods, 20 prosthetic legs, and 20 walkers," he added.

Yan explained that the distribution of assistive devices is part of the social welfare services provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government through the South Jakarta Social Sub-agency. This initiative also reflects the government's commitment to creating an inclusive urban environment that is friendly to persons with disabilities.

"It is hoped that the assistive devices provided will help improve the mobility, activity levels, and quality of life of the beneficiaries, enabling them to carry out their daily activities more independently," he hoped.
