Thousand Islands Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan praised the Pari Island Circular Waste Initiative, a program launched by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk Group at SDN Pulau Pari 01, Pari Island Urban Village, South Thousand Islands.

According to Fadjar, the program includes waste management education in schools, the development of waste banks, and greening efforts at Kresek Beach.

"Circular economy-based waste management is the right solution to address waste issues in island regions," Fadjar stated on Thursday (8/6).

He said waste can be processed into value-added products while also benefiting local communities.

"A circular waste management system offers a solution to restore the cleanliness of the marine environment while creating economic opportunities for residents," he emphasized.

Fadjar expressed hope that similar programs would be expanded beyond Pari Island to other inhabited islands across the Thousand Islands, which face similar waste management challenges.

"We hope this program can be replicated on other islands so its benefits can reach more communities," he added.

PT Wika Beton Engineering and Production Director Verly Widiantoro said the initiative is part of the company's Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program.

Through the Pari Island Circular Waste Initiative, the company aims to support circular economy-based waste management while helping preserve the coastal and marine ecosystems of the Thousand Islands.

"We hope this program will benefit local communities while supporting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment," he said.
