The Jakarta government is set to optimize its regional assets in Ciangir, Tangerang, by transforming the area into a center for organic processing and food security.

The project aims to fortify the regional food supply chain, benefiting residents in both Jakarta and Banten.

"Our vision for food security here includes large-scale cattle ranching, poultry farming, and fisheries," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated in Ciangir, Friday (7/31).

The development of the Ciangir area spans approximately 20 hectares, with 17 hectares dedicated to core facilities and 3 hectares preserved as green space.

Pramono emphasized that this site is absolutely not an alternative to the Bantargebang Landfill. Instead, the regional asset will be transformed into a productive hub for livestock ranching, fish cultivation, and urban farming.

"This is not—and will not be—a backup for Bantargebang; it’s a completely different vision," he clarified.

According to the President Director of Dharma Jaya, infrastructure development at the Ciangir site is scheduled to break ground this November, with a total investment valued at approximately Rp 1 trillion.

Pram is pushing for efficiency, ordering several city agencies to get a head start.

"I have instructed the Environmental Agency, Food Security Agency (KPKP), and Asset Management Agency to begin their respective responsibilities even earlier," he revealed.

He has issued a firm directive for agencies to break ground on the project by early September at the latest. He believes this initiative is the 'missing piece' in Jakarta’s waste management puzzle.

Instead of piling up in landfills, organic waste will be processed into high-quality fertilizer and animal feed.

"We will be transporting processed fertilizer from our TPS 3R sites—such as the one we recently visited in Menteng Atas—directly to this facility," he explained, highlighting a new, sustainable cycle for the city’s waste.

He is ensuring that the Ciangir development is not just about infrastructure—it’s about the people. He has specifically requested that the project prioritize local talent and empower small business owners in the surrounding community.

Further, he extended his deep appreciation to the Banten Provincial Government for their seamless cooperation, hailing the project as a successful example of cross-regional synergy

Meanwhile, Banten Governor Andra Soni expressed his full support for the development of the Jakarta-owned land. He is confident that the program will be a 'win-win' for residents in both Jakarta and Banten.

"We believe that all the good intentions planned by the Governor will surely benefit everyone, especially the people of Banten and the surrounding communities," he stated.

Managed by Perumda Dharma Jaya, the Ciangir area is set to become an integrated cattle ranch designed to secure Jakarta’s food supply. In a push for sustainability, the livestock will be fed exclusively with 100% locally-produced organic feed.

This move aligns with Jakarta’s massive shift in waste management, moving away from the old 'collect-transport-dump' method to a smarter 'sort-collect-dispose' system.

The city has set a bold deadline: by August 1, 2026, the Bantargebang Landfill will only accept residual waste. This is a major step toward phasing out open dumping entirely, with a target of reaching 'Zero Open Dumping' by 2029.
