The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared strict sanctions for waste transportation service providers, companies, and property managers found illegally dumping waste.

Violators will face legal action in accordance with applicable regulations, ranging from administrative sanctions and public disclosure of non-compliance to the suspension and revocation of business licenses.

The measure aims to ensure that responsibility for waste management is not shifted to the government or the public. Every waste transportation service provider and business that profits from waste collection services is required to manage waste properly, responsibly, and in accordance with regulations.

Jakarta Environment Agency Head Dudi Gardesi said enforcement would be carried out firmly, proportionately, and based on the severity of each violation. He said the effort is intended not only to deter offenders but also to promote a more orderly and equitable waste management system.

"Businesses must take responsibility for the waste they generate and transport. The government should not continue bearing the consequences of violations committed by parties that profit from these activities," Dudi stressed on Thursday (7/30).

He explained that under Governor Regulation No. 102 of 2021 on Waste Management Obligations for Business Areas and Companies, companies or property managers that fail to fulfill their waste management obligations may receive a series of written warnings.

The first warning is issued with a compliance period of 14 days, followed by a second warning of seven days and a third warning of three days.

According to him, if the third warning is ignored, the Jakarta Provincial Government may publicly identify the company or property manager through its official channels as an environmental violator.

"Public disclosure serves as a form of transparency while also encouraging businesses to comply with the regulations," he asserted.

He added that similar provisions apply to holders of waste management business licenses and sanitation transportation service licenses. Violations of waste management obligations will also be addressed through a series of written warnings.

The Jakarta Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service (PMPTSP) Agency may also impose sanctions ranging from the temporary suspension to the revocation of business licenses based on recommendations from the Jakarta Environment Agency Head or other authorized officials if the third written warning is ignored.

"Through these measures, the Jakarta Provincial Government is making it clear that improving waste management is not only about expanding facilities and strengthening services, but also about ensuring that businesses comply with the regulations and fulfill their environmental responsibilities," he noted.

Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung responded to a case of illegal waste dumping in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, involving a private waste transportation service provider.

"I want to highlight the case in Penjaringan, where a private company collected waste from hotels, restaurants, and cafés (HORECA), made excessive profits from the business, and then dumped the waste in Penjaringan, leaving the Jakarta Provincial Government to deal with the consequences," Pramono said.

According to him, such practices cannot be tolerated because they harm the public, pollute the environment, and place additional burdens on public services. He said the Jakarta Provincial Government will ensure that every business engaged in waste transportation and management fulfills its obligations responsibly.

"In the past, private waste transportation service providers, companies, and property managers were rarely subjected to legal action. This time, I have instructed all relevant agencies to publicly identify the offenders and pursue legal action against them," he asserted.
