The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), is ready to coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to carry out Weather Modification Operations (OMC).

there has been almost no rain for three weeks

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the measure is intended to address the potential impact of a prolonged dry season in the capital.

"We are ready to coordinate with BMKG whenever necessary. The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency, is also fully prepared should weather modification operations be required," Pramono said at the Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta MRT Station on Wednesday (7/29).

Pramono explained that weather modification operations may be needed to regulate rainfall intensity and prevent drought in several areas, noting that Jakarta has gone nearly three weeks without rain.

"If necessary, the Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out weather modification because there has been almost no rain for three weeks, and some areas are already experiencing drought," he noted.

He added that the effects of the dry season have been felt most severely in areas surrounding Jakarta, but the conditions are also expected to affect the capital. Therefore, he said the administration is prepared to anticipate the impact of a prolonged dry season.

"The drought is currently most severe in areas upstream of Jakarta, but it will also affect the capital. That's why we are ready to anticipate its impact," he said.
