Vice Chairman of Commission B of the Jakarta City Council, Wahyu Dewanto, supports the plan of the Jakarta Provincial Government to hold a trial activation of the Night Market along Jalan H. Agus Salim or Jalan Sabang, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (7/25).
Dominated by culinary vendors
However, Wahyu reminded that area management, cleanliness, and order must be the main focus during the program implementation.
According to him, Jalan Sabang has long been known as one of the capital's nighttime culinary tourism hubs. Therefore, the Night Market trial is expected to further organize the growing trading activity in the area.
"In fact, Jalan Sabang is now like a night market dominated by culinary vendors. Hopefully, the culinary vendors who will be involved in the trial have been properly identified," he said, Friday (7/24).
He considered the trial a positive step, especially as it is supported by the provision of official parking pockets and traffic control by officers in the field.
Wahyu emphasized that the success of this program depends not only on smooth implementation but also on the management of the area before and after the event. He hopes that Jalan Sabang will remain clean and ready for use during the day.
"Before and after the Night Market is held, the area must be clean again," he appealed.
He also asked vendors to share responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and order in the area. He stated that regular evaluations are necessary to ensure the Night Market's operations can be continuously improved.
As for information, the Jakarta Provincial Government, along with several related agencies, will conduct a trial run of the Night Market on Jalan Sabang on Saturday, July 25, from 6 PM to 12 AM. This program will involve approximately 100 food cart-based vendors, supported by the provision of official parking spaces at Wisma Mandiri, Djakarta Theater, and Sarinah, traffic management, and a digital payment system.
Moreover, the area planning will also include a sidewalk revitalization plan through collaboration with advertising point users.
