Jakarta Legislative Council Commission E Member, Ghozi Zulazmi has voiced his support for the Jakarta government's plan to immediately renovate the Jakarta Islamic Center (JIC), which was damaged by fire some time ago.

He emphasized that the renovation must not be delayed any further, as the complex serves as a prominent Islamic icon and a key landmark of the city.

We back the Governor's move to get the repairs done now

"We can't afford more delays. The Islamic Center is a symbol of our city. We back the Governor's move to get the repairs done now and avoid any further setbacks," he expressed, Thursday (7/23).

For him, the move to restore JIC is clear proof that the Jakarta government is serious about creating high-quality community spaces. JIC is more than just a mosque—it is a vibrant social heartbeat for the city.

"A mosque shouldn't just be about prayer; it needs to be a community engine. It's a place where various social activities come to life to serve the people," he continued.

He further noted that proposals for JIC’s renovation were actually submitted several years ago. However, the grant funding received by the management at the time was insufficient to cover a full-scale revitalization.

He is now calling on the Jakarta Government to step up with a funding boost from the City Budget (APBD) or other sources to finally get the job done.

"We've been consistently reminding the relevant agencies and JIC management. However, the available grants simply weren't enough, which is why support from the APBD is now essential," he explained.

Ghozi added that while Commission E has yet to receive a technical briefing on the revitalization plan, the committee remains committed to overseeing and advocating for the immediate commencement of the project.

"Governor's commitment is a clear sign of political will. We certainly support and commend this initiative," he concluded.
