Firemen from North Jakarta and Seribu Islands acted fast to put out a fire on the vessel KN SAR Ramawijaya 240 at Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The situation is now under control.

Operation Section Head, Gatot Sulaeman stated that his sub-agency received the fire report at 7:58 PM. Responding immediately, firemen arrived on the scene just five minutes later to begin firefighting efforts.

We deployed 15 fire engines and 75 firemen to the scene

"To tackle this fire, we deployed 15 fire engines and 75 firemen to the scene," he expressed, Thursday (7/23).

The flames grew quickly, tearing through the left front hull of the vessel. It was suspected that sparks from repair work (docking) ignited the vessel's fuel, causing the fire to escalate.

To prevent a larger disaster, firemen worked fast to box in the fire and keep it from jumping to other ships nearby.

"After cooling down the site until 10:52 PM, we have successfully cleared the scene," he added.

The vessel, a 40-meter vessel belonging to Basarnas Mentawai, was in the middle of maintenance work when the fire broke out. The Jakarta SAR Office Head, Desiana Kartika Bahari reported that all 10 crew members on board escaped unharmed—a lucky break with zero casualties reported.

"We are grateful to personnel for their rapid action. We are leaving it to the police to conduct a further investigation," she concluded.
