Big changes are coming to the West Flood Canal riverside in Petamburan, Tanah Abang. Authorities are revamping the Jati Pinggir Green Open Space to offer residents a fresh "city view" experience, blending greenery with the Jakarta skyline.
Central Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency Head, Mila Ananda stated that the city view concept is an iconic feature of Central Jakarta, a district defined by its skyline of skyscrapers.
We intend to capitalize on it to turn Jati Pinggir Green Space into a major public attraction
"The city view is a hallmark of Central Jakarta, and we intend to capitalize on it to turn Jati Pinggir Green Space into a major public attraction," she expressed, Thursday (7/23).
She explained the West Flood Canal (KBB) riverside in Jati Pinggir are a prime spot, perfectly positioned to showcase Jakarta’s stunning skyline.
"We are transforming Jati Pinggir into a welcoming public space that doubles as a green belt for the community," she added.
Plans for the area include a variety of features for residents to enjoy, from jogging tracks and playgrounds to new sports zones and a community center.
"Our plan is to preserve two of the sports courts while building a new, semi-permanent multi-story hall. Because it’s located on the riverside, we’ve opted for a semi-permanent structure to stay in line with environmental rules," Mila detailed.
Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin described the Jati Pinggir project as a crucial addition to Petamburan’s crowded urban landscape.
"In such a high-density area, every inch of this space counts. We are going to maximize its potential as a prime spot for social interaction among the locals," he noted.
Notably, on Wednesday (7/22), Central Jakarta authorities cleared a 1,021-meter stretch of the Jati Pinggir riverside of stalls and command posts.
The cleanup was orderly and peaceful, a direct result of successful discussions and outreach with local leaders and community groups beforehand.
