Ahead of the rains, 21 personnel from various agencies teamed up to clear debris from the connecting drain on Jalan Haji Jusin, East Jakarta. The sweep is a proactive step to keep the neighborhood flood-free.
Ciracas Sub-district Water Resources Task Force Coordinator, Deby stated the cleanup was triggered by a massive buildup of mud and trash in the drain.
The project is on track to finish this weekend
"We are clearing a 25-meter section. Since the area is too cramped for heavy equipment, our team is doing all the heavy lifting by hand," she expressed, Friday (7/17).
Personnel consist of six personnel collaborating with 15 PPSU members.
"Started yesterday, the project is on track to finish this weekend. We’ve hit the 50 percent mark so far," he explained.
Susukan Urban Village Head, Puja Akbar Sahroni added that personnel are installing temporary levees using sandbags along both sides of the channel, spanning 30 meters on each side for a total of 60 meters.
"This measure is taken to minimize the risk of overflow, as parts of the channel are still natural and lack proper retaining walls," he revealed.
He called on residents to work together in maintaining the cleanliness of the drainage system to ensure it functions optimally, particularly in preventing water logging.
"Do not litter, especially into waterways, as it can trigger blockages and siltation," he emphasized.
