The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Water Resources Agency, is currently working on a Ciliwung River normalization project to mitigate flooding in Jakarta. The project is currently in the land acquisition stage.

62 buildings have been completed

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung stated that 62 buildings have been successfully cleared and demolished. Meanwhile, another 108 buildings are still in the clearing phase, with completion targeted for the end of 2026.

"Of the 170 target areas here, 62 buildings have been completed. However, the target will be reached by the end of this year," said Pramono, Friday (7/10).

The densely populated area, which is often affected by flooding, is now starting to be leveled to the ground as the compensation process is still ongoing.

Pramono added that the normalization of the Ciliwung River in the Cawang segment is being carried out in the Rawajati, Pangadegan, Cawang, and Cililitan areas. He targets completion of this normalization project in 2027, coinciding with Jakarta's 500th anniversary.

"Hopefully, it will be resolved. And this will continue the normalization program that was halted for a long time," he added.

Through this normalization project, Pramono hopes the Ciliwung River will be able to accommodate water during heavy rainfall, thereby preventing the impact of flooding caused by river overflows in the area.

In addition to normalizing the Ciliwung River, this medium-to-long-term project will also be carried out on the Krukut and Cakung Lama Rivers.

"Hopefully, in 2029, everything can be felt directly by the people of Jakarta," he hoped.

Pramono also confirmed that there is no intermediary involvement in the land acquisition for the Ciliwung River normalization project. The Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Water Resources Agency, is collaborating with the National Land Agency (BPN) to establish a complaint post in the area during the compensation process.

"So that people whose administration is incomplete, for example, please come directly to this post and will be fully assisted by the National Land Agency (BPN) and the Jakarta Government through Water Resources," he explained.

Head of Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Ika Agustin Ningrum reported that of the 170 buildings, 62 houses have been compensated and cleared. In Cawang Urban Village, two neighborhood units (RTs) will be affected by land acquisition namely RT 15 and RT 02.

"And our target in 2026 for Cawang, Rawajati, and Pangadegan is approximately 2 kilometers by the end of this year," she stated.

The Water Resources Agency has allocated a budget of Rp300 billion for land acquisition projects to normalize the Ciliwung, Krukut, and Cakung Lama rivers. Location permits (penlok) have been issued for four urban villages, and 10 other locations are still in the land acquisition planning document stage.
