The excavation process for the 5.8-kilometer northbound tunnel of the Jakarta MRT, which connects the Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta Station to Kota Station, has been completed.

This success marks a crucial step

This completion was marked by a breakthrough moment, when tunnel boring machine 1 successfully reached the end point of the excavation and penetrated the south side of Mangga Besar Station.

PT MRT Jakarta Construction Director, Weni Maulina, said that the successful completion of the northbound tunnel excavation is an important milestone in the construction of Phase 2A of the Jakarta MRT, as it is in accordance with the established target.

She assessed that this achievement was the result of careful planning, good coordination, and hard work from all parties involved in the construction of Phase 2A of the Jakarta MRT.

"Excavation of the northbound tunnel was completed on schedule. This success marks a crucial step toward completing the next construction phase, ensuring the project can continue on schedule," she said, Thursday (7/9).

Weni added that the PT MRT Jakarta construction team and contractors are currently completing the construction of the southbound tunnel from Kota to Bundaran HI.

The target is for all phase 2A tunnels on the north-south line to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026. As of June 25, 2026, the progress of phase 2A construction had reached 61.8 percent.

"PT MRT Jakarta is targeting completion and operation of Phase 2A of the North-South Line by the end of 2027, for segment 1 from Bundaran HI to Monas. Segment 2, extending to Kota, will be completed by the end of 2029," she explained.

As for information, PT MRT Jakarta and the contractor team used three tunnel boring machines to build the northbound tunnel in phase 2A of the north-south line.

Each machine builds according to its contract package, namely CP201 from Bundaran HI Bank Jakarta Station to Harmoni, CP202 from Harmoni to Mangga Besar, and CP203 from Mangga Besar to Kota

At the breakthrough point on the south side of Mangga Besar Station, the northbound tunnel is at a depth of up to 28 meters below ground level.

This makes it the deepest subway tunnel in Indonesia, along with the tunnel at Sawah Besar Station. It's a milestone in Indonesian civil engineering.

The tunnel boring machine 1 at CP202 is working on building a tunnel between Harmoni Station and Sawah Besar Station with a length of approximately 395 meters and a connecting tunnel between Sawah Besar Station and Mangga Besar Station with a length of 800 meters.

To connect the two stations, tunnel boring machine 1 crossed under the canal located between Jalan Gajah Mada and Jalan Hayam Wuruk.
