The Jakarta Transportation Agency has launched "CCTV Jakarta Takeover", a road safety education program that delivers traffic safety messages to road users through loudspeakers installed at several major intersections.
Encourage people to be more disciplined on the road
For the program's debut, the agency partnered with public figures Anastasia Putri (Mpok Caca) and comedian Yudhabrajamusti, who delivered safety reminders directly to road users through the CCTV-linked speaker system.
Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Budi Awaluddin said the initiative is the first of its kind in Jakarta, using intersection loudspeakers as a road safety education tool in collaboration with public figures.
"We are using loudspeakers at traffic intersections as a road safety education medium by collaborating with public figures so the messages feel closer to the community. We hope this approach will increase road users' awareness and encourage safer, more disciplined traffic behavior," he said on Wednesday (7/8).
Budi informed that loudspeakers are currently installed at six intersections: Harmoni, Patung Kuda, Bank Indonesia, Sarinah, Bundaran Senayan, and Simpang Millenium. Safety messages have already been delivered by Mpok Caca and Yudhabrajamusti at Simpang Millenium, Bank Indonesia, and Sarinah.
"Going forward, the Transportation Agency will add more speaker locations based on surveys conducted at additional intersections so the educational campaign can reach more people," he highlighted.
Through the program, residents are reminded to obey traffic lights, stop behind the stop line, wear helmets and seat belts, prioritize pedestrians, and avoid using mobile phones while driving.
According to Budi, the initiative is part of a broader effort to promote a culture of traffic discipline through a more creative, approachable, and community-oriented approach.
He added that integrating CCTV with loudspeakers is also in line with Jakarta's efforts to expand technology-based traffic monitoring and improve road safety.
"We hope this program will encourage people to be more disciplined on the road. In the future, road safety education through intersection loudspeakers will continue to be carried out regularly by Transportation Agency officers so that a stronger culture of traffic discipline can grow across the community," he asserted.
