The Jakarta government has acted swiftly to solve the issue of accumulated waste following complaints from residents in Cakung, East Jakarta.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that he received public reports regarding the issue through social media.
I immediately ordered an intensive cleanup
"As it happened, these waste piles were buzzing on social media. Once I received the community reports yesterday, I immediately ordered an intensive cleanup," he expressed during an inspection of the Latumenten Flyover construction in West Jakarta, Thursday (7/2).
Thus far, 54 tons of waste have been hauled away by East Jakarta personnel following an intensive cleanup. Pramono stressed, this issue is a wake-up call for the city, noting it was caused by the reduced holding capacity at the Bantargebang Landfill.
To tackle the issue at its root, he stressed that waste sorting must be prioritized across the board. He welcomed the community's input on waste management and called for a collective effort to keep the city pristine.
"I urge the public to stop littering. Let us work together to ensure a cleaner and more organized Jakarta, especially concerning our waste," he asserted.
