The West Jakarta City Government is targeting nine urban villages to resolve the issue of open defecation (ODF) this year.

Head of West Jakarta Health Sub-agency, Sahruna explained of the total 56 urban villages, 43 have declared their commitment to the success of community-based total sanitation (STBM) to resolve the ODF problem in their areas.

"We are committed to gradually eliminating the problem of open defecation in 56 urban villages. Currently, 13 urban villages are ODF-free," he explained, Wednesday (7/1).

Sahruna emphasized that his party will continue to strive to resolve the remaining closed ODF problem in 43 urban villages.

"This year, we are targeting nine urban villages to be free from closed ODF by building communal septic tanks," he said.

The nine urban villages targeted to complete the ODF program this year are Kedaung Kali Angke (remaining 37 families with closed ODF), Rawa Buaya (97 families), Jelambar (80 families) and Semanan (remaining 75 families with closed ODF).

Then, Kelapa Dua (remaining 52 families with closed defecation), South Kembangan (35 families), Palmerah (87 families), Glodok (8 families) and Mangga Besar Urban Village (remaining 41 families with closed defecation).

According to Sahruna, his party will involve CSR to accelerate the communal septic tank construction program.

"Hopefully everything can be realized according to plan," he hoped.
