Local residents have expressed their appreciation for the completion of the Quarter II Priority Area project on Jalan Bahari I, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

Once a neglected spot, the area has now undergone a total transformation into a lush, vibrant green space that promotes community education and supports local food security programs.

We’re thrilled to see our proposals come to life

RW 06 Chairman, Tanjung Priok Urban Village, Endang Sahara highlighted that the project fulfills the residents' desire for a better, safer, and more organized living space.

"We’re thrilled to see our proposals come to life. The place has been completely revitalized; it’s now clean, tidy, and a real sight to behold," she shared, Wednesday (7/1).

She added that residents of RW 06, Tanjung Priok, are committed to independently maintaining the revitalized area through community-driven efforts. Beyond beautifying the neighborhood, the fish raised in the on-site ponds are expected to bolster the residents' nutrition.

"We're committed to nurturing this space as a community. Hope this makeover is just the beginning and will soon expand to the back alleys," she explained.

Tanjung Priok Urban Village Economic and Development Section Head, Nurhayati highlighted that the spot was once a cluttered, vandalized space.

Strategically located near SDN Tanjung Priok 04, it was the perfect candidate for a makeover that turns a community eyesore into a high-value public space.

"Our revitalization concept centers on greening and food security. We're breathing new life into a blighted area, turning it into a thriving resource for the community and the environment alike," she revealed.

Spanning 15 meters, this revamped strip now hosts a lush garden and two specialized fish ponds. Measuring 2x1 meters each, these ponds are used to breed catfish and tilapia, serving as a practical cornerstone for the neighborhood’s food sustainability.

Adding a splash of color and life, vibrant murals on waste management and the Jakarta 499 logo now line the street. Lush vertical gardens further enhance the area, proving that even limited spaces can be beautiful and green.

"Our vision is for this space to be more than just scenery—it's a classroom on the street that encourages everyone to champion a cleaner, greener neighborhood," she noted.

She noted that the revitalization was a collaborative effort involving the Parks and City Forest Sub-agency, the Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-agency, and a rotating team of 10 PPSU personnel, with strong support from the local community.

"The mission doesn't stop here. We are committed to revamping more unorganized areas, with the Tanjung Priok Station precinct next on our list," she emphasized.
