Discover Jakarta's heritage at your fingertips. The 'Koleksi Jakarta' platform offers a one-stop digital portal to thousands of museum treasures managed by the Jakarta Culture Agency, making exploration easier than ever.
Boasting a digital library of over 1,400 objects and 1,500+ cataloged records across 11 museums, this platform is a game-changer. It empowers everyone—from researchers to students and culture buffs—to discover and delve into Jakarta’s rich heritage at any time, from any corner of the globe.
This initiative underscores our vision of a global city
Jakarta Culture Agency and SEAMS have officially debuted the 'Koleksi Jakarta' platform. The launch, held under the theme 'Behind the Scenes of Koleksi Jakarta,' was hosted at the Jakarta History Museum Auditorium on Tuesday (6/30), marking a new era for the city's digital heritage.
This platform represents a major leap forward in making cultural treasures more accessible. Gone are the days when museum info was only available on-site; now, anyone can explore a vast range of collections through this one-stop digital hub.
Users can discover a diverse range of collections, from maritime artifacts at the Bahari Museum to pop culture icons like the 'Si Unyil' puppet at the Wayang Museum and the iconic Ondel-ondel at the Betawi Museum.
Beyond just expanding access, Koleksi Jakarta provides comprehensive and standardized information. Each object is detailed with catalog data compiled according to international museum documentation practices, specifically referencing the Getty Conservation Institute standards. This information includes provenance and collection history, helping the public understand the origins, context, and significance of every artifact.
Born from the 'Koleksi Kita' initiative launched in 2024, the platform brings to life years of work in recording and digitizing thousands of city treasures.
The project not only modernizes collection management but also opens new doors for the public to engage with Jakarta's cultural legacy. Proudly backed by the U.S. Embassy’s AFCP fund, this partnership underscores a shared global mission to preserve Indonesia's priceless cultural heritage.
U.S. Embassy Spokesperson Jamie Ravetz expressed pride in supporting the development of Koleksi Jakarta through the AFCP.
“The United States is proud to support the Koleksi Jakarta initiative through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. This project demonstrates how collaboration, digital innovation, and the application of international museum standards can expand public access to cultural heritage while strengthening preservation efforts for future generations,” he explained.
He added that this collaboration underscores a joint U.S.-Indonesia vision to safeguard cultural wealth and deepen people-to-people connections—the very foundation of their bilateral relationship.
Further, the debut of Koleksi Jakarta is a strategic step toward celebrating Jakarta's 500-year milestone, utilizing digital innovation to revolutionize how museum history is managed and shared with the world.
Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary highlighted that Koleksi Jakarta is a bold step in modernizing cultural access.
“This is a historic first: a unified hub for thousands of Jakarta’s provincial museum treasures. Beyond accessibility, we aim to strengthen our archives to ensure they are interconnected and safeguarded for the future. As we approach Jakarta's 500th-year milestone, this initiative underscores our vision of a global city that honors its cultural roots through technology,” he remarked.
The event included a 'Behind the Scenes' deep dive into the platform's creation, detailing the teamwork involved in cataloging, digitizing, and building the unified database.
Koleksi Jakarta offers a fresh, modern way for the community to engage with its heritage. It ensures that museums continue to thrive as vital hubs of knowledge, staying perfectly in tune with the digital era.
