The Jakarta Transportation Agency is strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders to improve road safety and create a more orderly traffic conditions across the capital. 

The commitment was discussed during a meeting led by Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Budi Awaluddin with representatives from ride-hailing driver communities, ride-hailing operators Gojek and Grab, PT Blue Bird Tbk, Green SM, road safety communities, and the police.

Budi said improving parking management and road safety requires the involvement of all stakeholders to ensure that the resulting solutions accommodate public needs while preserving the proper function of roads.

"We want to develop solutions together. That's why we are bringing all stakeholders to the table to identify the best course of action. Parking management must be accompanied by better alternatives for drivers so road order can be maintained without compromising their ability to serve the public," he stated on Saturday (6/27).

As a follow-up to the collaboration, the Jakarta Transportation Agency and its partners will organize a Safe Driving Seminar for around 200 drivers from various taxi companies and ride-hailing operators.

Budi explained that the seminar is part of a joint effort to promote a culture of safe, orderly, and respectful driving, helping improve the safety of both drivers and other road users.

In addition to strengthening road safety education, Budi said the meeting also discussed several initiatives to improve parking management in Jakarta. Among the proposals being explored is the relaxation of parking regulations, which is currently under discussion with ride-hailing operators and building management as one option to facilitate passenger pick-ups and drop-offs without using traffic lanes.

The meeting also highlighted plans to expand shelters for ride-hailing drivers, particularly in office building areas. The Transportation Agency has continued developing similar facilities at locations under its management, including an existing shelter at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Bus Terminal. Going forward, additional shelters are expected to be established at office buildings across Jakarta through collaboration with various stakeholders.

"In the near future, we will hold further discussions with building managers, ride-hailing operators, and passenger transport operators. We will also soon inaugurate a ride-hailing driver shelter at Wisma Kosgoro, an initiative developed in collaboration with Grab," he noted.

Budi stressed that collaboration with driver communities is not a temporary initiative but part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's long-term commitment to making Jakarta's roads safer, more orderly, and more comfortable for all road users.

He added that the Transportation Agency will continue working closely with all stakeholders to ensure parking management improvements go hand in hand with enhanced road safety.

"Through this collaborative approach, we hope the solutions we develop will benefit all parties while restoring roads to their primary function as public mobility spaces," he said.
