Jakarta City Council Vice Chairman, Wibi Andrino hopes that Jakarta will continue to evolve into a better, more advanced, and inclusive city as it approaches its five-century milestone.
Wibi maintains that the developmental feats accomplished by the Jakarta government are an indispensable foundation for future progress. Nevertheless, he pointed out that 'homework' persists, specifically the need to bridge the social gap among the public.
We envision a city that is more refined and inclusive
"We envision a city that is more refined and inclusive. Our Gini ratio may be ostensibly positive, yet a substantial disparity remains that we must bridge," he expressed, Tuesday (6/23).
He emphasized that efforts to narrow disparities must be sustained to ensure that the benefits of development are distributed more equitably across all levels of society.
He pointed out that vulnerable communities grappling with constraints need to be empowered by social safety nets. Consequently, ongoing programs should be bolstered to enhance their precision and impact.
"Those currently in need can be provided with social safety nets. These programs are already being implemented by the Jakarta government; they simply need to be expanded and better supervised," he explained.
Wibi hopes that bolstering social programs and elevating the quality of public services will become integral to Jakarta’s evolution into a global city—one that is not only an economic powerhouse but also a bastion of prosperity and social equity for all its residents.
