Rawajati Urban Village in Pancoran Sub-district, South Jakarta, has developed its second-quarter flagship area on Jalan Kaca Jendela, RT 07/RW 08, using an urban farming concept.
Aims to support food security while improving the surrounding environment.
Rawajati Urban Village Head Sariman said the initiative aims to support food security while improving the surrounding environment.
"The revitalization effort is the result of collaboration with various stakeholders, including the South Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency, which provided plant seedlings," he said on Wednesday (6/17).
Various crops have been planted at the site, including eggplants, chili peppers, tomatoes, fruit trees, and longan trees.
"The revitalization work has now been completed by PPSU personnel. The project focuses on strengthening food security through urban farming," he noted.
In addition to creating a greener environment, Sariman said the area is equipped with biopore holes for composting organic waste.
"The collected waste will be processed into compost to support plant growth in the area," he explained.
According to Sariman, the 80-square-meter area was once a neglected site that was frequently used for the illegal disposal of household waste and construction debris.
Through the revitalization program, the urban village administration hopes residents will help maintain and care for the facilities that have been built. Residents are also encouraged to adopt similar initiatives in their own neighborhoods.
"We hope residents will take an active role in maintaining and caring for the improved environment. They can also apply the Observe, Imitate, and Modify approach to develop urban farming programs around their homes and strengthen household food security," he said.
Meanwhile, RW 08 Chairperson Sriono expressed appreciation to the urban village administration for allocating funding to revitalize the area.
The site was originally used as a road access area but later became a recurring illegal dumping spot. Despite repeated clean-up efforts by local community leaders, the problem persisted.
"We hope the revitalized area will bring lasting benefits to residents of RW 08 and the surrounding community," he said.
