Sumur Batu Urban Village in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, is requiring food aid beneficiaries to use eco-friendly bags when collecting assistance.
To reduce the use of single-use plastic bags, which are difficult to decompose
Sumur Batu Urban Village Head Nurhadiyat said the policy aims to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags, which are difficult to decompose, while also raising public awareness of more sustainable waste management practices.
"Residents are required to bring a goodie bag or reusable shopping bag from home when collecting food aid from the Ministry of Social Affairs," Nurhadiyat said on Friday (6/12).
He said the policy has been socialized to RT and RW administrators so the information can be passed on to eligible residents.
According to him, food aid distribution is taking place over three days, from June 11-13, 2026, benefiting 2,013 residents across eight RWs and 106 RTs.
"The number of food aid beneficiaries in Sumur Batu has increased significantly from 473 residents last year. Each beneficiary receives 20 kilograms of rice and four liters of cooking oil," he explained.
Titin (47), a Sumur Batu resident, appreciated the initiative.
"I was informed by our RT administrator not to bring single-use plastic bags when collecting food aid at the urban village head's official residence," she noted.
