Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung participated in the Car Free Day (CFD) event by exercising on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Sunday (6/7).

He believes that the Car Free Day in this new corridor will serve as an alternative location for the public to exercise and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

This will surely become a new landmark for Car Free Day in Jakarta

"I see the potential here in Kuningan; considering the views, the air quality, and the accessibility, this will surely become a new landmark for Car Free Day in Jakarta," he remarked.

He added that this Car Free Day has even evolved into a major attraction for foreign tourists, especially from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Drawing from his own experience as a regular participant in the Sudirman-Thamrin Car Free Day, Pramono hoped that this new route would help decentralize the crowds from the Sudirman-Thamrin area, which is currently heavily congested with 40,000 to 50,000 visitors per week.

He added that this new Car Free Day corridor in Rasuna Said provides seamless transit connectivity, being easily reachable through both Transjakarta and the Jabodebek LRT.

"Accessibility from outside Jakarta is excellent. I am certain this will become a top choice for people to engage in physical activities and social gatherings, catering to locals and visitors alike," he explained.

He expressed confidence that the event will provide a pleasant and comfortable option for the public. Nevertheless, it will be shorter in duration than the one in Sudirman-Thamrin, specifically running from 5:30 AM to 9 AM.

This schedule was decided upon to ensure it does not interfere with residents' other morning commitments, including religious worship. Throughout his visit, the Governor also made an effort to gather input from participants concerning the implementation of the Car Free Day.

He noted that most residents expressed a desire for Car Free Day to become a weekly fixture. Nevertheless, he affirmed that the Jakarta government remains committed to continuously refining and enhancing the event’s implementation.

Car Free Day Becomes a Platform for Waste Segregation Awareness

Beyond serving as a venue for exercise, the Rasuna Said Car Free Day also acts as a platform for socializing the importance of waste segregation. This movement is expected to foster a behavioral shift among Jakartans, encouraging them to take greater responsibility for their own waste.

On that occasion, Waste Segregation Ambassador Cinta Laura urged the younger generation to develop both the awareness and responsibility to manage the waste they generate individually.

She is convinced that fostering awareness and transforming public habits regarding waste management will pave the way for a healthier and more pristine Jakarta.

"Our responsibility for waste shouldn’t end the moment it is discarded. We need to take it to the next level by segregating our waste, ensuring that the infrastructure provided by the Jakarta government is utilized to its full potential," stated the Waste Segregation Ambassador, Cinta Laura.

In the meantime, Nindi (38), who was seen cycling through Rasuna Said, welcomed the expansion of Jakarta’s Car Free Day zones. Having regularly frequented the Sudirman-Thamrin route, she noted a stark contrast between the two locations.

She believes the new corridor offers a more pleasant weekend workout environment, especially as she finds the Sudirman-Thamrin area to be reaching its capacity.

"It alleviates the pressure on the Sudirman Car Free Day, which is already so dense. It’s getting quite difficult to cycle there since it’s dominated by runners. In contrast, this area is still fairly uncongested and ideal for a ride," she stated.
