The Kramat Jati Water Resources Unit (SDA) has dispatched seven personnel to revitalize the drainage channels at Jalan Haji Deris, East Jakarta. This project serves to address flooding issues and improve neighborhood livability.
The work began on Tuesday (6/2) and is targeted to be finished in three weeks. This roughly 90-meter-long waterway is being upgraded with five-inch diameter PVC piping to replace the old system, which was no longer sufficient to handle the water flow.
May it serve to prevent any future floods
Kramat Jati Sub-district SDA Executing Unit Personnel, Mulyadi said, this revitalization project serves as a response to requests from locals who have long struggled with flooding during intense rain.
"The previous three-inch piping was insufficient for high water discharge, which frequently resulted in runoff spilling onto the street," he expressed, Wednesday (6/3).
He noted that the project involves manual excavation for the new pipe installation.
"This approach was chosen because of the narrow site conditions, which feature a width of only 80 to 100 centimeters and a meandering route," he explained.
Further, he noted that installing precast U-ditch concrete was impractical given the limited workspace and site conditions.
"The development of these channels is a testament to the partnership between the authorities and the public. The materials were self-funded by the residents, whereas we are supplying the workforce to carry out the project," he remarked.
This project received appreciation from one of the members from LMK RW 02, Batu Ampar Urban Village, Siti Zuriyah.
"I extend my sincere appreciation to those who collaborated on our neighborhood's drainage project. May it serve to prevent any future floods," he remarked.
