The Cilincing Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Unit in North Jakarta is currently normalizing the drainage system on Jalan Rorotan IX, RT 15/07, Rorotan Sub-district. The project, which began on May 7, 2026, is targeted for completion by the upcoming June.

Field Coordinator for the Cilincing Sub-district Water Resources Unit, Nandi Yantoro stated that the normalization is a follow-up to residents' requests to address frequent inundation caused by the narrow and shallow condition of the existing drains.

The drain was often clogged with mud and waste

"The previous channel was only about 60 centimeters wide, which restricted water flow. Further, the drain was often clogged with mud and waste," he expressed, Friday (5/22).

He explained that the normalization covers a 150-meter stretch, with the new drainage dimensions measuring 100 centimeters in both width and height. These larger dimensions are expected to optimize water flow and minimize puddles during heavy rainfall.

"The project involves seven 'Blue Troop' personnel equipped with supporting tools. Currently, the work progress has reached approximately 30 percent," he added.

Nandi hoped that the drainage improvement would benefit local residents, particularly in creating a safer and more comfortable environment.

"Hopefully, once the work is completed, the water flow will be smooth and the issue of standing water can be resolved," he remarked.

The initiative received appreciation from a local resident, Maulika (31).

According to her, the area frequently floods during high-intensity rain. Additionally, the clogged drains often made the neighborhood look dirty.

"I hope it is finished soon so that there will be no more puddles. This will make the environment cleaner, safer, and more comfortable for all residents," she concluded.
