The South Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-agency has recorded 18,575 sacrificial animals inspected over the past week.

Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Section of the Sub-agency, Irawati Harry Artharini said inspection of sacrificial animals is carried out to ensure the health of the animals as well as the quality and suitability of the sacrificial animals to be slaughtered.

inspections in 10 districts

"We carried out inspections in 10 districts throughout South Jakarta by deploying dozens of officers in each implementing unit," she said.

The inspection of sacrificial animals includes ensuring they meet sharia requirements and are physically fit. This ensures they are free from infectious or zoonotic diseases and that the meat produced is safe, healthy, wholesome, and halal (ASUH).

Then, her party also checked the completeness of official documents stating that the animal came from a disease-free area and was fit for sale.

She added that the 18,575 sacrificial animals that have been inspected came from 201 sacrificial animal shelters, with details of 6,455 cows, 10,219 goats, 1,824 sheep and 77 buffaloes.

During the inspection, her team found six sacrificial animals with diseased legs, thighs and backs, commonly known as Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).

"We will continue to carry out routine inspections of sacrificial animals being bought and sold until Eid al-Adha approaches," she added.
