Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal in East Jakarta promoted waste sorting and processing through an outreach program involving 50 representatives of bus operators and terminal sanitation workers on Wednesday (5/20).

So not all waste ends up being sent to TPST Bantar Gebang

On this occasion, Ciracas Sub-district Head Panangaran Ritonga, Kampung Rambutan Terminal Head Revi Zulkarnain, Ciracas Police Chief Commissioner Rohmad, and Environment Sub-agency Task Force Head Aline Jihan Hadiahwati took part in waste sorting and compost-making activities using blue composting bins.

Panangaran Ritonga expressed appreciation for the terminal management's efforts to intensify waste sorting and processing programs by involving bus operator representatives, traders, sanitation workers, and public transportation crews.

"The temporary waste disposal site (TPS) at Kampung Rambutan Terminal is also used by nearby residents to dispose of their waste, so we are helping educate the public about this program," he noted.

Through the waste sorting and processing program, the administration hopes to reduce waste sent to Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).

"Especially since the terminal also has a waste bank and composting facilities," he added.

Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal Head Revi Zulkarnain said the terminal generates a large amount of waste because it is a public area visited by people from various backgrounds.

According to Revi, non-organic waste has been collected by sanitation workers for the waste bank program, while organic waste is processed into compost used as fertilizer for plants around the terminal.

"We are intensifying waste sorting and processing efforts so not all waste ends up being sent to TPST Bantar Gebang," he asserted.
